Direct Selling Association Of Malaysia Celebrates 30th Anniversary

In conjunction with the Direct Selling Association of Malaysia’s (DSAM) 30th anniversary, the association will be organizing a National Convention on 7 July 2008 to celebrate its achievements in building recognition for the direct selling industry as a significant contributor to the Malaysian economy today.

Speaking at the unveiling of the 30th anniversary celebration logo today, Paul Yee, President of DSAM said: “Recognised today by the government for its important role in the nation’s economy, direct selling has been gaining acceptance and respect as a viable profession that has withstood economic changes. DSAM is proud to have played a vital part in assisting the country to meet its nationalistic aspirations by building a nation of entrepreneurs.”

In just three decades, DSAM’s commitment to the long term growth of the direct selling industry has seen Malaysia achieving success as the largest direct selling market in South East Asia, and ranking third in Asia Pacific and 10th in the world based on latest available data from the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA). The Malaysian direct selling industry is estimated to have achieved close to RM8.0 billion in sales in 2006 from RM6.6 billion in 2005.

In view of the industry’s potential, Yee added: “DSAM will continue to pursue its purpose of maintaining a conducive and ethical operating environment through numerous initiatives aimed at protecting and educating consumers. Our efforts to date include the launch of the DSAM Code of Conduct and the Consumer Education Module which is part of the APEC Consumer Education Protection Initiative programme.”

The Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Y.B. Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad, in his congratulatory message to the association said: “I commend DSAM for its commitment and effort in raising consumer awareness through its consumer education programme and upholding the integrity and reputation of the industry.”
DSAM is the standards bearer of ethical direct selling and is the only direct selling association in Malaysia recognized by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA).

In celebrating its 30 years of successfully building entreprenuers, DSAM will be presenting the Outstanding Entreprenuer Award (OEA) to direct sellers from DSAM member companies for exceptional achievements in their profession.
